HISTORY
The Camerata Porteña, often considered as “the authentic heir of Piazzolla“ by the specialized press, gives Contemporary Tango a singular sound, merging the subtlety and precision of chamber music with the passionate expressive power of this Argentinian genre.
The Camerata Porteña, created in 1986 by the young musician, composer and arranger Marcelo Rodríguez Scilla and supported by Astor Piazzolla himself, has been working since its inception on the renewal of Contemporary Tango, recreating Piazzolla’s work with distinctive arrangements and a particular interpretative style: under the accurate conduction of Rodríguez Scilla, this unique cross-over orchestra handles the emotionality of Tango with academic care.
This musical concept also underlies the avant-gard compositions of Rodríguez Scilla and Alejandro Borgo, which form part of their repertoire as well. Among many others, the “Suite El Ángel Vive”, which relates through its six movements some phases of Astor Piazzolla´s musical and biographical development.
Its musicians are soloist professors and members of the “National Symphonic Orchestra” of Argentina, or the “Stable Orchestra of the Teatro Colón” of Buenos Aires. The concerts also feature the masterful voice of Guillermo Ibáñez.
The Camerata Porteña has been declared of “National Cultural Interest” by the Argentinean Secretary of Culture and by the Argentinean Chancellery. These organizations often facilitate international presentations.
The Camerata Porteña has a vast artistic career (concerts, recordings, music for documentary films and TV-series, radio and TV- presentations) and has been scheduled at main theaters and festivals around the world, including:

Furthermore, Rodríguez Scilla has designed Masterclasses about Piazzolla’s work and its performance, which he usually offers with the Camerata Porteña at many countries.
In 2021, celebrating the centenary of the birth of Maestro Astor Piazzolla, the Camerata Porteña carried out the international tour "Piazzolla 100 years - EL Ángel Vive" through Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador, completing 12 concerts and six Master Classes. The tour was sponsored by the Argentine Foreign Ministry and by the Embassies of our country in Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador.
It was presented again on the main stage of the International Cervantino Festival (Guanajuato) and at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. In Medellín with the Symphony Orchestra of the Music Faculty of the University of Antioquia and in Ecuador with the National Symphony Orchestra of that country.
